Book Tunes (21)

Book Tunes is a new meme that will be held on Fridays and the point is to share the book your reading and a song you think represents it. Be sure to include the novel you are reading, the summary, the song you think fits it and an explanation of why you chose that particular song. So snag yourself a button, write a post and link up at the bottom of the page!

Vanish by Sophie Jordan
From Goodreads:
To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?
In bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s dramatic follow-up to Firelight, forbidden love burns brighter than ever.
This time around, I'm going to do something a little different. Maybe it's because I've read these two novels back to back but a few of these characters really speak to me so I'm giving songs to each of them! I'm also going to relate these more to Firelight since that is already out.

Will's Tune: You Belong Here by Anberlin

The Lyrics:
You belong here.
You were meant for me.
You belong here.
You were meant to be with me.

You've got the better part of me.
Always have and always will
You've got the better part of me, oh.
And you know that I'm right.
And I know I'm asking too much.
And I know I'm taking control.
But, a heart that's not worth breaking isn't worth much, not at all.
Isn't worth much at all.

You belong here.
You were meant for me.
You belong here.
You belong here with me.
You were meant to be with me.

You are the better part you'll see.
Always have and always will.
You'll be the better part of me, oh, for the rest of my life.
And I know I'm asking too much.
And I know I'm all control.
But, I'll give you all I have.
It isn't much, much at all.
I'm not much at all.

You belong here.
You were meant for me.
You belong here.
You belong here with me.
You belong here (You belong here with me)
You were meant to be with me.

But, I'll give you all I have.
It isn't much, not much at all.
But, a heart that's not worth breaking isn't worth much, not at all.

You belong here.
You were meant for me.
You belong here.
You belong here with me.
You belong here (You belong here with me)
You were meant to be with me.
(You belong here with me.)

Why this tune?: Will isn't certain of a lot but he is sure of one thing and that is Jacinda. He knows that their future can't be easy because of what he is and what his family does but he also believes that his future is nothing without Jacinda in it. He truly believes that they belong together and all through Firelight and now Vanish, he's spending his time trying to make Jacinda see that they can be together. I think this song describes Will's point of view about their future together perfectly!

Cassian's Tune: I Will Possess Your Heat by Death Cab For Cutie

The Lyrics:
How I wish you could see the potential,
the potential of you and me.
It's like a book elegantly bound but,
in a language that you can't read.
Just yet.

You gotta spend some time, Love.
You gotta spend some time with me.
And I know that you'll find, love
I will possess your heart.
You gotta spend some time, Love.
You gotta spend some time with me.
And I know that you'll find, love
I will possess your heart.

There are days when outside your window
I see my reflection as I slowly pass,
and I long for this mirrored perspective
when we'll be lovers, lovers at last.

You gotta spend some time, Love.
You gotta spend some time with me.
And I know that you'll find, love
I will possess your heart.
You gotta spend some time, Love.
You gotta spend some time with me.
And I know that you'll find, love
I will possess your heart.
I will possess your heart.
I will possess your heart.

You reject my... advances... and desperate pleas...
I won't let you... let me down... so easily.
So easily.

You gotta spend some time, Love.
You gotta spend some time with me.
And I know that you'll find, love
I will possess your heart.
You gotta spend some time, Love.
You gotta spend some time with me.
And I know that you'll find, love
I will possess your heart.
You gotta spend some time, Love.
You gotta spend some time with me.
And I know that you'll find, love
I will possess your heart.
I will possess your heart.
I will possess your heart.

Why this tune?: Cassian shows up to rescue Jacinda in Firelight and he promises to wait for her. In Vanish, he's still trying to get Jacinda to see that he sees her for more than what she can do. It's like they are both speaking different language which is why that line about a book being bond beautifully but in a different language works so well. Cassian always repeats that he has time and he's will to wait to have Jacinda's heart.

Jacinda's Tune: Bring Me To Life by Evanescence

The Lyrics:
How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core where I’ve become so numb
Without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

now that I know what I’m without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life

frozen inside without your touch
Without your love, darling
only you are the life among the dead

all this time I can't believe I couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything
Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul
don't let me die here
there must be something more
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

(Bring me to life)
I’ve been living a lie, there’s nothing inside
(Bring me to life)

Why this tune?: There is no doubt about it, Will brings out the real and true side of Jacinda. He can re-kindle her soul in the darkest of moments with a mere look. Even when she is starving, dying, Will "brings her to life". In Firelight it was literal and in Vanish it's more figuratively. She is dead inside for having to give up everything and only Will can revive her.

Have you read Firelight? What do you think of my choices? Can you think of any other songs that fit this novel?

  1. I don't see enough people loving on Anberlin. They're so great. These other choices are great too, but I'm super excited to see that you posted Anberlin.

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
